Robert was drafted as the top High School pitcher in Texas by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He decided to postpone the opportunity and pursue a degree from Texas A&M. There he played for 3 years and was then drafted as a junior by the Houston Astros. He spent 3 years in the Astros organization.
